China is a fascinating place to visit. It is full of contrast between old and new, rich and poor. You will see state of the art five star hotels across the street from slums, and elite private schools fenced off from the outside world. The Chinese people are a friendly bunch, they will always offer a hello ("ni hao") and big smile, they still seem fascinated by Westerners. Don't expect to blend into the crowd, you will stand out like a sore thumb.
If you are visiting China I would recommend the Emperor's Summer Palace in Beijing, one of the most spectacular palaces in China. Also, the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Wall of China are not to be missed. If you fancy something a little more adventurous, try the Lesser Three Gorges, located at the end of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River, on the Daning River tributary. You can get a canoe ride down a river only a couple of metres wide surrounded by thousand foot cliffs and rainforest on either side, as you sail through, the locals play a flute-like instrument to create a beatiful ambience. Definitely one of the memories of China that will stay with me for a long time to come.
